How can we help you?

Finding a Rental

  • How do I search for Section 8 or Housing Vouchers?

Section 8 is a federal housing program that pays a portion of low-income renters’ monthly rental payment. This means the renter pays a rate that better fits their budget,  but the landlord still gets a fair market rate. It’s funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), but it’s administered through local public housing agencies, or PHAs.

Due to Fair Housing laws, listings on Zumper do not contain the term 'Section 8’ so, you cannot search for specific listings using 'Section 8' as a search filter. Listings on Zumper are user managed, so it's the property owner or manager who decides whether or not such vouchers are accepted.

For more information regarding a specific listing, and if you qualify, we recommend contacting the listing provider. Each listing has a listing phone number under, “Check Availability” or “Apartment Contact”. You also have the ability to communicate directly with the property contact using Zumper’s messaging platform.

While Zumper strives to provide consumers with the best tools and information to make smart rental  decisions, we have no involvement in the communication between listing providers and potential tenants.

If you wish to file a complaint regarding fair housing violations, refer to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's online complaint page for more information.

  • How can I tell if a rental listing is a scam?

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is!

While we do our best to verify all posters on our site, we are aware that some people do slip through the cracks. If you have a question about any listing in which the landlord exhibits suspicious activity prior to you viewing the property, please fill out the support request form with the Zumper website url so we can investigate further.

    Common rental scams are:

    - You are asked to wire money prior to seeing the apartment

    - You are asked for a security deposit before you sign the lease

    - They tell you they are out of the country or have moved out of state

    - They are unable to show you the property themselves

    - They encourage you to view a property on your own

If you find yourself a victim of rental fraud, always report the incident to the FTC using the following link:

  • How do I unsubscribe from alerts?

To unsubscribe from alerts, select the Alerts link in the top left corner of your account. From here, you can deselect the checkbox next to alerts you are no longer interested in receiving information for. You can delete alerts that are no longer relevant to your search

You can also unsubscribe from Zumper alerts directly from the email. Simply scroll to the bottom of the message and select the "manage notifications" link. Select the unsubscribe from all notifications option and save your updates.

If you decide you no longer want to keep a property on you list, just unselect the heart and it will disappear.
