How do I search for Section 8 or Housing Vouchers?

Section 8 is a federal housing program that pays a portion of low-income renters’ monthly rental payment. This means the renter pays a rate that better fits their budget,  but the landlord still gets a fair market rate. It’s funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), but it’s administered through local public housing agencies, or PHAs.

Due to Fair Housing laws, listings on Zumper do not contain the term 'Section 8’ so, you cannot search for specific listings using 'Section 8' as a search filter. Listings on Zumper are user managed, so it's the property owner or manager who decides whether or not such vouchers are accepted.

For more information regarding a specific listing, and if you qualify, we recommend contacting the listing provider. Each listing has a listing phone number under, “Check Availability” or “Apartment Contact”. You also have the ability to communicate directly with the property contact using Zumper’s messaging platform.

While Zumper strives to provide consumers with the best tools and information to make smart rental  decisions, we have no involvement in the communication between listing providers and potential tenants.

If you wish to file a complaint regarding fair housing violations, refer to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's online complaint page for more information.
